Juclar Lakes

The Juclar lakes sit at around two thousand three hundred metres in a rock basin above the Vall d'Incles, two connected bodies of water that together make the largest lake in Andorra, held behind a rock bar with the French border on the ridge above. The walk up from the head of the Incles valley takes about two hours over rising ground. A refuge stands beside the water and trout live in the lakes.

What you actually see

• The refuge - the hut beside the lakes for walkers and anglers.
• The border ridge - the French frontier on the crest above.

When to go

July to September is the walking season once the snow has cleared. Snow can lie into July. The lakes freeze in winter.

Honest expectations

The walk is around two hours each way over rising rocky ground. Weather at this altitude changes fast and cloud closes in. The refuge is small and unstaffed for part of the year.
