Les Bons stands on a rock outcrop above Encamp, a small group of stone houses with the chapel of Sant Romà, a Romanesque building whose apse was painted in the twelfth century, and the remains of a tower and walls from a fortified house that once controlled the valley below. The position is the point: the rock drops away and the whole of Encamp and the road up the valley are laid out beneath.

What you actually see

  • The rock position - a hamlet on an outcrop above the valley floor.
  • Sant Romà - the Romanesque chapel with its painted apse.
  • The tower remains - the fortified house that controlled the valley.
  • The valley view - Encamp and the road up the valley from above.

When to go

May to October is the pleasant season. The chapel is locked outside guided visits. Winter makes the walk up icy.

Honest expectations

The chapel is usually locked and access is by guided visit. The paintings are reproductions; the originals were removed. The walk up is short but steep.

Nearby

Encamp is below, and Meritxell is northeast.
