The Carmen Thyssen museum in Escaldes-Engordany opened in 2017 and does not hold a permanent display: it shows changing selections drawn from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, one theme at a time, running to nineteenth and twentieth-century European painting including impressionist and post-impressionist work. Shows change once or twice a year, so what is on the walls depends entirely on when you go.

What you actually see

  • The rotating selections - one themed show at a time from the Thyssen collection.
  • The nineteenth-century painting - the impressionist and post-impressionist material.
  • The 2017 opening - a gallery built to bring the collection to Andorra.
  • The changing programme - shows replaced once or twice a year.

When to go

Year round, though the gallery closes between shows. Check what is hanging before travelling. Winter hours are reduced.

Honest expectations

There is no permanent collection, so what is shown varies completely and the gallery closes between exhibitions. It is small and an hour covers it. Entry is not cheap for the size.

Nearby

Escaldes-Engordany's centre is around it, and Andorra la Vella is west.
