Caldea rises over Escaldes-Engordany like a glass cathedral, its mirrored spire the tallest structure in Andorra, and inside it turns the parish's ancient hot springs - thermal water emerging around 70C and cooled for use - into one of Europe's largest mountain spas: indoor-outdoor lagoons, Indo-Roman baths, grapefruit and licorice pools, saunas and steam rooms, with the outdoor lagoon steaming against snowy peaks in winter. The adults-only Inuu wing adds a quieter, sleeker version. After a ski day at Grandvalira, the soak has become as much a part of the Andorra ritual as the duty-free run.

When to go

Year round; the outdoor lagoon in ski season, with cold air and rising steam, is the signature experience. Evenings sell out in winter high season - book timed slots ahead. Summer offers the same waters without the queue pressure.

Honest expectations

It is big, popular and family-filled in the main wing - those wanting silence should pay the Inuu premium. Three-hour slots pass faster than expected once lockers and circuits are navigated. Peak-week prices are real spa prices; the town's hotel packages often bundle entries cheaper. Swim caps are not required but flip-flops are wise.
