Windward Point

Windward Point is the easternmost tip of Anguilla, a low limestone headland with scrub and cactus on it and the Atlantic breaking on the rocks below, and the track out is rough enough that it stays empty. Blowholes fire along the shore when the swell is right. Scrub Island lies just off the point across a shallow channel. There is nothing built anywhere near. Scrub Island has an abandoned airstrip on it from a development scheme that was never finished, visible from the point. The channel between is shallow enough to wade in places at low tide, though currents make it unwise.

• The eastern point - the island's easternmost tip.
• The blowholes - the surge holes firing along the rocky shore.
• Scrub Island - the low island off the point across the channel.
• The scrub and cactus - the dry vegetation on the headland.

When to go

December to April is the dry season. Swell is heaviest in the northern winter. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Honest expectations

The track out is rough and needs high clearance. The rocks are sharp and the shore is dangerous in swell. There is no shade and no facilities.
