Plavsko jezero lies beside the town of Plav in the far northeast, fed by the Ljuča which comes down from the Ali Pasha springs, and drained by the Lim, which runs north into Serbia. It is a glacial lake of about two square kilometres with the wall of Prokletije standing behind it, and on a still morning the peaks reflect across the whole surface. It is fished, and a path runs round part of the shore.

What you actually see

  • The mountain reflection - the Prokletije wall mirrored on still mornings.
  • The Ljuca inflow - the river arriving from the Ali Pasha springs.
  • The shore path - the walking route around part of the lake.
  • The fishing - the trout and other fish the lake is worked for.

When to go

May to October; the lake is frozen in parts of winter. Early morning is best for the reflections. Summer is warm and the shore is used for swimming.

Honest expectations

Development around parts of the shore is untidy. The water level drops in late summer. Facilities are limited to the town.

Nearby

Ali Pasha Springs are south, and Gusinje is beyond them.
