Getting thereOn the main road and railway between Podgorica and the north
EntryFree; lifts charged

Kolašin sits at around a thousand metres in a basin between the Bjelasica and Sinjajevina ranges, and it works as the northern mountain base: two ski areas above the town operate in winter, and in summer it is the access point for Biogradska Gora, the Tara and the Moraca canyon. The town itself is modest, largely rebuilt, with a small ethnographic museum and a growing set of hotels serving both seasons.

What you actually see

  • The ski areas - Kolasin 1450 and 1600 above the town.
  • The Bjelasica range - the walking and skiing mountains to the east.
  • The Biogradska Gora access - the route to the old-growth forest park.
  • The railway - the Belgrade to Bar line running through the town.

When to go

December to March for skiing, with snow most reliable in January and February. June to September for walking. April and November are quiet with much closed.

Honest expectations

The ski areas are small by alpine standards and snow is not guaranteed. The town has little historic character, having been largely rebuilt. Accommodation prices rise sharply in both seasons.

Nearby

Biogradska Gora is east, and Moraca Monastery is south.
