Temurun Waterfall

Temurun is on the northern coast road towards Datai and is the highest waterfall on Langkawi, coming down the flank of Gunung Machinchang in three tiers over roughly two hundred metres, the lowest of which is a broad curtain into a shallow pool a few minutes' walk from where you park. The forest here is part of the oldest exposed rock formation in the region, and the walk in is short, shaded and easy - which makes it one of the few genuinely accessible natural sights on the island. The honest problem is water: the catchment is small, and outside the wet months the fall reduces to a thin trickle down a large dark wall, so a great many visitors arrive to find impressive rock and almost no water. Dusky langurs and macaques are usually around the car park.

Honest expectations

In the dry season there is often barely any water at all. The rocks are slippery and the pool is shallow. Macaques raid cars and bags left open.
