Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls

Telaga Tujuh means seven wells, and that is literally what it is: a stream on the flank of Gunung Mat Cincang has worn a sequence of seven basins into the granite, each spilling into the one below over smooth polished rock, before the whole thing drops away as a ninety-metre fall. Reaching the pools means about six hundred steps up from the car park, which sorts out the casual visitors and takes maybe twenty hard minutes in the heat. The rock between the pools is worn slick and people slide down it, which is fun and also how the injuries happen. Langkawi tradition has the pools as a bathing place for fairies, which is where the name Seven Wells and much of the local storytelling comes from. Macaques work the steps and the car park.

Good to know

The rock is extremely slippery and people are injured sliding on it; the edge above the main drop is unfenced. Water can be low in the dry season. Macaques steal food and bags.
