Getting thereIn the far west near the Cameroon border; long drive from Bouar on poor roads
EntryLocal fees

The Lancrenon falls sit on the Ngou river in the far west of the country, where the water comes off the edge of the Yadé highlands in a broad curtain into a gorge below, in country that is high, cool and thinly settled compared with the rest of CAR. They are among the larger waterfalls in the country. Getting there means a long drive on poor roads from Bouar.

What you actually see

  • The broad curtain - the width of water coming off the highland edge.
  • The gorge - the cut the river has made below the fall.
  • The highland country - the cooler high ground of the western massif.
  • The Ngou river - the watercourse that makes the fall.

When to go

December to March is the dry season and the roads are usable. Volume is greatest at the end of the wet season. The roads are largely impassable in the wet.

Honest expectations

This is a long and difficult journey with no facilities at any point. Roads in the west are poor and vehicles need to be properly equipped. Arrangements must be made locally well in advance.

Nearby

Mount Ngaoui is north, and Bouar is east.
