Marbo Cave sits close to the road in eastern Guam, a limestone chamber with a pool of very clear cold fresh water in it, reached on a short walk and a scramble down into the opening. Roots hang through the roof and light comes in from the entrance. It is easy to reach compared with most of Guam's caves, which is why it gets used, and the water is deep enough to get into. Guam's northern half is a raised limestone plateau riddled with caves of this kind, most of them far harder to reach.

What you actually see

  • The clear pool - cold fresh water filling the chamber floor.
  • The hanging roots - growth coming through the cave roof.
  • The entrance light - the opening that lights the chamber.
  • The easy access - a short walk rather than a serious hike.

When to go

December to June is the drier season. The scramble in is slippery after rain. Weekends bring local visitors.

Honest expectations

The scramble down into the cave is slippery and awkward. There are no facilities and litter is a problem. Water quality varies and swimming is at your own judgement.

Nearby

Pagat is north, and Tagachang is south.
