Levera National Park

Levera covers Grenada's northeastern corner, where a long beach faces the Atlantic with Sugar Loaf island offshore, backed by mangrove and a brackish pond that is one of the island's most important bird sites. Leatherback turtles come ashore on the beach between March and July and a monitoring programme runs through the season. The water here is rough and the beach is not for swimming. The park also takes in Sandy Island and Green Island offshore, both part of the protected area.

When to go

March to July is turtle nesting season and the reason most people come. December to May is drier generally. The Atlantic surf here is heavy year round.

Before you go

Swimming is dangerous because of currents and should not be attempted. Turtle watching must go through the monitoring programme rather than independently. The last stretch of road is rough and facilities are minimal.
