EntryBoat trips charged

Tindhólmur stands off the western coast of Vågar, an uninhabited islet with a sheer western face and a green slope on the east, topped by five peaks that each carry a name: Ytsti, Arni, Lítli, Breiði and Bogdi, the outermost, eagle, small, broad and bent. It rises to about two hundred and sixty metres. Boats from Sørvågur pass close under it on the way to Mykines and the bird cliffs.

What you actually see

  • The five peaks - each named separately along the ridge.
  • The sheer western face - the cliff dropping straight to the sea.
  • The boat passage - trips from Sorvagur passing close beneath.
  • The Bour view - the classic vantage from the village opposite.

When to go

June to August for boat trips; they are cancelled in swell. The islet is visible from Bøur year round when the fog lifts. Landing is rarely possible.

Honest expectations

Landing is difficult and rarely offered; most visits are a boat passage or a view from shore. Trips are cancelled often in wind. Fog hides it a great deal of the time.

Nearby

Bour is opposite, and Mykines is west.
