Enniberg is the headland at the northern point of Viðoy, where the ground drops about seven hundred and fifty metres straight into the sea, which makes it among the highest vertical sea cliffs in Europe. It is reached only on foot from Viðareiði along an exposed ridge, several hours there and back, with no barrier and no marked path at the top. Fulmars, guillemots and gannets nest on the face below.

What you actually see

  • The cliff - a drop of around seven hundred and fifty metres straight to the sea.
  • The ridge walk - the exposed route north from Vidareidi to the point.
  • The seabird colonies - fulmars, guillemots and gannets on the face.
  • The northern view - open Atlantic beyond the headland.

When to go

June to August is the only sensible window. The walk needs settled weather and good visibility. Fog on the ridge makes it genuinely dangerous.

Honest expectations

This is a serious mountain walk with lethal unfenced drops and no marked path; a local guide is strongly advised and people have died here. Fog closes it often. There is no phone signal for much of the route.

Nearby

Vidareidi is south, and Klaksvik is beyond it.
