Getting thereAbove Klaksvik on Bordoy; gravel track then a path from the town
EntryFree

Klakkur rises to about four hundred and thirteen metres directly above Klaksvík, and it is the standard walk from the town: a gravel track climbs most of the way and a path takes the last stretch to the top, about an hour from the road end. From the summit the northern islands lie spread out, Kunoy and Kalsoy across the sound, Kalsoy's ridge running north, and the fjord with the town in it below.

What you actually see

  • The summit view - the northern islands, sounds and fjords laid out below.
  • The Kunoy and Kalsoy ridges - the neighbouring islands seen across the water.
  • The town below - Klaksvik in its isthmus between the two bays.
  • The short climb - about an hour from the road end to the top.

When to go

May to September is the season. Fog closes the view frequently, so a clear day should be taken when it comes. The path is exposed in wind.

Honest expectations

Cloud sits on the top a great deal of the time and the view is often absent. The path is unmarked in places and boggy after rain. There is no shelter at the summit.

Nearby

Klaksvik is below, and Kunoy is across the sound.
