Nordragota

Norðragøta was the seat of Tróndur í Gøtu, one of the central figures of the Faroese saga and the chieftain who resisted the coming of Christianity, which makes it one of the few Faroese villages with a documented medieval importance. Blásastova, a preserved farmhouse complex with turf roofs, is open as a museum. Since 2002 neighbouring Syðrugøta has hosted the G! Festival each July, one of the two largest music festivals in the islands.

When to go

May to September for the museum. The G! Festival falls in July and fills the Gøta villages completely. Winter is very quiet.

Before you go

The museum keeps short summer hours only. Festival week makes accommodation impossible to find anywhere nearby. Little is visible of the saga period beyond the setting.
