Spanny Falls

Spanny Falls, sometimes called Spanny's Twin Falls, are two waterfalls on the same stream in the interior near Pont Cassé: the first is a ten-minute walk from the road and drops into a broad pool with a rock ledge people jump from, and the second is further upstream and needs a scramble and usually a guide. Both sit in dense forest and the water is cold. The first fall is one of the easier waterfall visits on an island where most involve river walking.

What you actually see

• The first fall - a short walk from the road into a broad swimming pool.
• The jumping ledge - the rock shelf beside the first pool.
• The second fall - the upstream drop reached by scrambling with a guide.
• The forest setting - dense interior woodland around both falls.

When to go

December to April is drier and the trail is less muddy. Heavy rain raises the stream and closes the upper route. Mornings are quietest.

Honest expectations

The trail to the second falls is unmarked and a guide is effectively required. The path is muddy and slippery after any rain. Facilities amount to a parking spot on the road.
