Boeri Lake

Boeri Lake lies in a crater above Freshwater Lake, reached on a trail of about forty five minutes that climbs over roots and volcanic boulders through montane forest before dropping to the shore. UNESCO's citation names it alongside Freshwater as the country's largest lakes inside Morne Trois Pitons National Park. Hot and cold springs both feed it, which makes the temperature vary around the edges. Cloud sits on it much of the time.

When to go

December to April is drier and the trail is safer. Rain makes the boulders slippery and dangerous. Mornings offer the best chance of clear weather.

Honest expectations

The trail is rocky and slippery and takes longer than the distance suggests. Cloud frequently blocks any view at the top. Swimming is discouraged because of the depth and cold.
