Hagaparken

Gustav III laid out Haga from the 1780s in the English manner - lawns running to the water of Brunnsviken, clumped trees, sight lines and follies - and it is among the most complete parks of its kind in Sweden. Two things stand out: the Koppartalten, three tent-shaped facades in painted copper that were built as guard barracks and look like a Turkish camp, and the Great Palace, begun in 1786 and abandoned as a shell when the king was assassinated, standing unfinished ever since. Gustav III's pavilion has fine Gustavian interiors and opens in summer. A butterfly house and an echo temple are also in the grounds. The crown princess lives at Haga palace.

Things to know

The pavilion opens on limited summer days and by tour. Haga palace is a private residence and closed. Distances in the park are long. Weekend crowds fill the lawns in summer.
