Kungstradgarden

The ground was the royal kitchen garden, opened to the public in the eighteenth century, and it is now a long rectangle of paving, fountains and lime avenues running down to the water in the middle of the city. Sixty-three Japanese cherries were planted in the northern half in the 1990s, and their flowering - usually somewhere in the second half of April, though it moves with the year - has become a fixed event, with the avenue packed for the ten days or so it lasts. The rest of the year the park works as a public space: an outdoor rink in winter, concerts and markets in summer, cafes along the sides.

Blossom timing shifts by up to two weeks and can be missed. The avenue is extremely crowded when it is out. The park is small and hemmed by traffic. Winter is bare apart from the rink.
