Anse Major Trail

The Anse Major trail leaves the road at Danzil beyond Bel Ombre and runs for around an hour along the flank of the Morne Seychellois massif, crossing bare granite slabs above the sea with the coast dropping away below, before descending to Anse Major, a beach reachable only on foot or by boat. There is nothing at the beach. Much of the route is in the open with no shade and the rock gets hot.

What you actually see

• The granite slabs - bare rock crossed high above the sea on the route.
• The coastal views - the northwest shore of Mahé dropping away below.
• Anse Major - the beach at the end, reachable only on foot or by boat.
• The dry vegetation - the scrub and palms of the exposed western slopes.

When to go

April to October has the more reliable weather. Start early; the rock is exposed and gets very hot. Rain makes the granite slippery and dangerous.

Honest expectations

There is no shade for long stretches and no water anywhere on the route. The granite is slippery when wet and the drops beside the path are real. The beach has no facilities at all.
