Igidae occupies the headland between Gwangalli and the Oryukdo islets, and the coastal path along it is the best city walk in Busan - roughly four kilometres of boardwalk, steps and rock-cut path following the shoreline at the foot of wooded cliffs, with a suspension bridge over one inlet and the sea breaking on rock below the whole way. The view is the point: across the water the towers of Haeundae and Marine City stand in a wall with the Gwangan bridge in front of them, and at night the whole skyline is lit. The path continues to Oryukdo Skywalk at the eastern end, a glass-floored deck cantilevered over the cliff where the East Sea and the South Sea are said to meet, with the five or six islets - the count changes with the tide, which is what the name means - offshore. The walking is uneven and there are many steps, but no serious climbing.

What you actually see

  • The cliff boardwalk - the path along the rock shoreline.
  • The city skyline - Haeundae and the bridge across the water.
  • Oryukdo Skywalk - the glass deck at the eastern end.
  • The islets - the five-or-six rocks offshore.

When to go

April to June and September to November. Late afternoon into dusk gives the skyline lighting up across the water. Avoid after heavy rain when rock sections are slick.

Honest expectations

The path is uneven with a lot of steps - four kilometres here is harder than four on the flat. Sections close in storms and high seas. The Skywalk queues and requires shoe covers.

Nearby

Gwangalli is round the bay; Haeundae is across the water and the Oryukdo ferry runs from the point.
