The skywalk projects from the cliff at Seungdumal, the headland at the south-eastern tip of Busan, on a U-shaped glass deck about fifteen metres out and thirty-five above the water. Visitors put on cloth slippers over their shoes, which keeps the glass clean. Below and offshore are the Oryukdo islets - the name means five-six islands, because one of them appears joined to another at low tide and separate at high, so the count changes with the water. This headland is also the conventional dividing point between the East Sea and the South Sea, which is a cartographic convention rather than anything visible, though the currents around the islets are genuinely strong. The Igidae coastal trail runs from here along the cliffs toward Gwangan, and it is one of the better urban coastal walks in Korea. The skywalk is free and closes in high wind.

What you actually see

  • The glass horseshoe - fifteen metres out, thirty-five above the rocks.
  • The Oryukdo islets - five or six, depending on the tide.
  • The sea boundary - the conventional East and South Sea divide.
  • The Igidae trail - the cliff path running north from here.

When to go

April to June and September to November. Mornings are quiet; weekends queue for slippers. Closed in high wind and in wet, slippery conditions.

Honest expectations

Free but small - the deck holds a limited number and there is often a wait. The glass is difficult for anyone with a fear of heights. It is a viewpoint and a photograph, twenty minutes unless you walk the trail.

Nearby

The Igidae coastal path, Gwangalli beach and Haeundae are along the coast.
