Bupyeong Kkangtong Market

Kkangtong means tin can, and the name comes from the post-war years when American canned rations and surplus goods were traded here - the market has carried the nickname ever since. It sits a block from Gukje and is a daytime market of clothing, dried goods and food supplies, but its draw is the night market, which the district set up in 2013 and which runs down the central arcade every evening: a couple of dozen stalls doing Korean street food alongside a deliberately international spread - Vietnamese, Thai, Turkish, Filipino, Indian - reflecting Busan's port trade and its migrant communities. Portions are small and cheap, which is the format, so the intended way through is several stalls rather than one meal. There is limited standing space and no seating to speak of. It is covered, so it runs whatever the weather.
