EntryFree

Anse Cocos lies on the exposed eastern side of La Digue, reached by a footpath over headlands from Grand Anse in around thirty minutes, and there is no road to it. The open ocean breaks on the beach and swimming in it is dangerous, but at the northern end a natural pool enclosed by rocks stays calm and is where people actually get in the water. A small beach café operates in season.

What you actually see

  • The rock pool - the enclosed calm water at the northern end of the beach.
  • The open surf - ocean breaking directly on the sand with no reef.
  • The walk in - thirty minutes over the headlands from Grand Anse.
  • The granite - the boulders framing both ends of the bay.

When to go

April to October has calmer conditions. The southeast monsoon from May raises the surf and currents. The walk is hot in the middle of the day.

Honest expectations

Currents on this beach are dangerous and swimming outside the rock pool is not advisable. The walk over the headlands is hot with no water available. The café does not always operate.

Nearby

Grand Anse is south, and Anse Marron is southwest.
