Nid d'Aigle, the eagle's nest, is the summit of La Digue at around three hundred metres, reached on a concrete track that climbs steeply from the village and then a footpath through the last section of forest and granite. The view takes in Praslin, FƩlicitƩ, the Sisters and the reef around La Digue itself. The climb takes around an hour and is hot work, and there is a small shelter at the top.

What you actually see

  • The summit view - Praslin, FĆ©licitĆ© and the Sisters laid out around.
  • The steep track - the concrete road climbing from the village.
  • The granite and forest - the last section through rock and woodland.
  • The reef - the shallow water ringing La Digue seen from above.

When to go

Year round; early morning is coolest and clearest. Cloud builds through the day. Rain makes the last section slippery.

Honest expectations

The climb is steep and relentless in heat with little shade. Bicycles cannot get more than partway up. Cloud can close the view entirely.

Nearby

La Passe is below, and Anse Cocos is on the east coast.
