Church of St George, Staro Nagoricane
A fourteenth-century church near Kumanovo with a fresco cycle by two named Thessaloniki painters.

The church of Saint George at Staro Nagoričane was rebuilt in 1313 by King Milutin on eleventh-century foundations, in alternating bands of stone and brick, and it was painted between 1316 and 1318 by Mihailo and Eutihije, two painters from Thessaloniki who signed their work, which is unusual for the period. Their frescoes here are among the most complete Byzantine-tradition cycles surviving anywhere in the region.

The church is often locked and getting in may need finding the keyholder. The interior is dim and hard to see without good daylight. There is no interpretation on site.
