The Plava špilja on the outer coast of the Luštica peninsula is a sea cave with two openings, and when the sun is in the right position light entering underwater reflects off the pale floor and fills the chamber with a strong blue, which is what the boats come for. Small craft go inside and passengers swim in the cave. It is one of the standard boat excursions from the bay, often combined with Mamula and the submarine tunnels.

When to go
May to October for boat trips. The blue effect is strongest around the middle of the day when the sun is high. Any swell closes the cave to boats.
Honest expectations
The effect depends entirely on sun and time of day; on an overcast morning there is little to see. Boats queue to get in during high season and the cave is crowded. Swell cancels trips at short notice.
