The Saint-Martin gardens run along the seaward face of the Rock below the cathedral and the Oceanographic Museum, laid out from 1816 and the oldest public gardens in Monaco, with paths winding between Aleppo pines, agaves and Mediterranean planting on the cliff, and the sea directly below. A statue of Prince Albert I in oilskins stands among them. It is the quietest part of the old town. They were opened to the public in 1830, which makes them older than most of the buildings on the Rock around them.

When to go
April to October is the pleasant season. The gardens are open year round. Early morning is quietest before the tour groups.
Honest expectations
The gardens are narrow and paths are steep in places. They get busy between the cathedral and the museum. There are no facilities within.
