Larvotto

Monaco's swimming happens at Larvotto, the bay of imported sand on the principality's eastern edge, rebuilt in 2021 into a sleek crescent of promenade, pine shade and low pavilions. The water is netted against jellyfish in season, the public stretches remain genuinely free in a place where little else is, and the backdrop is pure Monaco: towers pressing to the shore, yachts crossing the bay and the Japanese Garden's pines behind the promenade. Beach clubs add the paid version with loungers and restaurants for those so inclined.

Swimming season runs May to September with lifeguards and nets in high summer; June and September beat the August crush. Off-season the promenade stays a pleasant walk. Water quality is monitored and generally good.

Good to know

The sand is imported and coarse, the bay is small, and August packs it shoulder to shoulder by mid-morning - arrive early for free-zone space. Club prices are Monaco prices. It is a city beach with city sounds; those wanting wild coves should ride the bus toward Cap d'Ail's paths.
