The rose garden in Fontvieille Park was created in 1984 by Prince Rainier in memory of Princess Grace, who was a keen rose grower, and it now holds several thousand rose bushes across hundreds of varieties along with sculpture and an olive grove, laid out on reclaimed land at the foot of the Rock. It was replanted and enlarged in the 2010s and is managed without pesticides. The garden holds around eight thousand bushes and several roses bred and named for the princess herself.

When to go
May to June is the main rose flowering and the reason to come. A second flush comes in September. Winter leaves the beds cut back.
Honest expectations
Outside the flowering periods there is little to see. The garden sits among Fontvieille's apartment blocks and infrastructure. It is small and an hour covers it.
