The Pitons du Carbet are a group of steep volcanic domes in the centre of the island, the highest reaching 1,196 metres, and their upper slopes carry cloud forest with tree ferns and epiphytes that is among the least disturbed on the island. Along with the Mount Pelée massif they form the property UNESCO inscribed in 2023 as the volcanoes and forests of northern Martinique, listed as its second component with the Morne Jacob.

When to go
December to April is the drier season and the safest for climbing. Cloud sits on the peaks most afternoons. Trails are dangerous in rain.
Good to know
The climbs are steep, muddy and technically harder than the heights suggest; ropes are fixed on some sections. Cloud means many climbs end with no view at all. Guides are strongly advised.

The Route de la Trace runs below, and Fonds-Saint-Denis is west.
