Getting thereFerry from Fort-de-France, or road around the bay
EntryFree; museum charged

Les Trois-Îlets faces the capital across the Bay of Fort-de-France and is reached by a ferry that takes twenty minutes, and it holds a village square with the church where Marie-Josèphe Tascher de la Pagerie was baptised in 1763, before she went to France and became the Empress Joséphine. The Musée de la Pagerie stands on the family estate outside the town. The marina at Pointe du Bout is the island's main resort strip.

What you actually see

  • The village square - the church and painted buildings at the centre.
  • The Pagerie estate - the museum on the ground where Joséphine was born.
  • The bay ferry - the twenty-minute crossing from the capital.
  • Pointe du Bout - the marina and hotel strip on the point.

When to go

December to April is high season with the fullest ferry service. The museum keeps daytime hours and closes some days. Summer is quieter.

Honest expectations

The Pagerie museum is small and the presentation of the family's plantation history is thin. Pointe du Bout is a resort strip with little local character. The ferry does not run late.

Nearby

Village de la Poterie is nearby, and Les Anses-d'Arlet is southwest.
