Sainte-Luce sits on the south coast with a fishing harbour, a seafront of restaurants and a string of small beaches running east and west, including Anse Corps de Garde and Gros Raisin. The Trois-Rivières distillery is just inland, and above the village the Forêt de Montravail holds a set of pre-Columbian petroglyphs carved into boulders in the woods, one of the few Amerindian rock art sites accessible on the island.

What you actually see

  • The Montravail petroglyphs - pre-Columbian carvings on boulders in the forest above.
  • The village beaches - Anse Corps de Garde and Gros Raisin either side of the harbour.
  • The fishing harbour - the working port at the centre of the village.
  • The distillery - the Trois-Rivières works a short distance inland.

When to go

December to April is high season and driest. The petroglyph forest is muddy after rain. Summer is quieter and hotter.

Honest expectations

The petroglyphs are faint, poorly signed and easy to miss without a guide. The village beaches are small and fill in season. Parking on the seafront is difficult.

Nearby

Les Salines is east, and Diamond Rock is west.
