Anse Trabaud

Anse Trabaud is a long stretch of pale sand on the Atlantic side of the southern tip, backed by scrub and sea grape with no building on it at all, reached down a rough private track where a fee is collected at a barrier. The Atlantic breaks directly on the beach, which makes the water livelier than the leeward coast, and the coastal path to the Savane des Pétrifications starts from the southern end.

When to go

December to April is calmest and driest. Swell can be heavy on this coast. Weekends bring local visitors despite the fee.

Things to know

The access track is rough and a fee is charged at the barrier. There are no facilities, shade structures or lifeguards. Atlantic currents here can be dangerous.
