Rumelange National Mining Museum
An iron ore mine at Rumelange opened as a museum, entered by train into the galleries.

The Walert mine at Rumelange worked iron ore from the Minett field and closed in the 1960s; part of it reopened in 1973 as the national mining museum. Visitors ride a train into the galleries and are taken through on foot, with the working methods of successive periods shown in place, from hand tools and horses through compressed air drills to the machinery of the final years. The temperature underground is constant and cool.

When to go
April to October is the main season; winter opening is limited. Visits are guided and run at set times. The galleries are cool and a jacket is needed.

Visits are guided only at fixed times and cannot be dropped into. The galleries are cool and damp year round. Commentary is mainly in French, German and Luxembourgish.
