Thermal water was found at Mondorf in 1841 while drilling for salt, and a spa was built on it that has operated ever since, making this the only thermal town in Luxembourg. The water comes up at around twenty-four degrees carrying a heavy mineral load and is used for bathing and treatment. A large park laid out along the Gander runs through the town, with a casino, an orangery and gardens, and the French border is a few hundred metres away.
