Mondorf-les-Bains
Luxembourg's only thermal spa town, on the French border, with a park and a nineteenth-century bath tradition.

Thermal water was found at Mondorf in the 1840s while drilling for salt, and a spa opened on it in 1847 that has operated ever since, making this the only thermal town in Luxembourg. The water comes up at around twenty-four degrees carrying a heavy mineral load and is used for bathing and treatment. A large park laid out along the Gander runs through the town, with a casino, an orangery and gardens, and the French border is a few hundred metres away.
History
The Celts lived here first, and the Romans, who came in 65 BC, built the Castel on Celtic foundations to guard the road from Metz to Trier. The village's name goes back to Muomina, a niece of Charlemagne, who in the 9th century gave it with all her possessions to Echternach Abbey (Wikipedia, Mondorf-les-Bains).
