Wologizi Range and Mount Wuteve

The Wologizi range in Liberia's far northwest holds Mount Wuteve, at around 1,440 metres the highest point in the country, a forested massif with montane forest on the upper slopes that carries species found nowhere else in Liberia. There is no road anywhere near the summit and the climb takes several days from the villages. Very few people go and the range is proposed as a protected area.

When to go

November to April is the dry season and the only practical window. The heavy rains from May make the route impassable. Cloud covers the summit frequently.

Honest expectations

This is a multi-day expedition needing guides, porters and community permission, and it is rarely done. There is no infrastructure of any kind and no rescue capability. Cloud usually closes the summit view.
