Hamptonne is a cluster of farm buildings in a St Lawrence valley presented as they stood at different periods: the Langlois house of the seventeenth century, the Hamptonne house of the eighteenth, a cider crushing shed with a granite trough and horse-driven wheel, and outbuildings around a yard. Costumed interpreters work the buildings in season and the cider apples are pressed in the autumn using the original equipment. The valley setting matters as much as the buildings, since the site was worked as a single holding for centuries and the fields around it are still part of what visitors walk through.

What you actually see

  • The Langlois house - the seventeenth-century building with its period interior.
  • The cider shed - the granite crushing trough and horse-driven wheel.
  • The farmyard - the buildings and animals arranged around the court.
  • The autumn pressing - the cider made with the original equipment.

When to go

April to October is the open season. The cider pressing happens in October. It closes for the winter.

Honest expectations

It closes entirely for the winter months. Costumed interpretation is not always running. It is aimed largely at families and school groups.

Nearby

La Mare is northwest, and St Helier is southeast.
