Tirathgarh Falls

Tirathgarh lies on the Munga Bahar stream inside Kanger Valley National Park, and unlike Chitrakote it falls in stages rather than one drop, cascading around ninety metres down a stepped rock face and dividing into several separate streams as it goes, with pools and small temples at intervals. Steps descend beside it to the base, where the streams recombine. The surrounding forest is dense sal and bamboo, and the fall runs strongest in and just after the monsoon. Because it sits inside the national park, access follows park hours and fees.

When to go

July to February; the monsoon gives the strongest flow, autumn the best combination of water and access. By April and May the fall reduces considerably. Park hours apply.

Before you go

Access is through the national park with entry fees and set hours. Steps are wet and slippery. Bastar is remote with limited facilities, and local advice on district travel is worth taking.
