La Sagesse sits on Grenada's southeastern coast, a sheltered bay with three small beaches separated by rocky points, a salt pond behind the middle one and mangrove along its edge. The pond draws herons and other waterbirds and a nature trail runs around it. A small hotel and restaurant sit at the back of the beach. The water is calmer here than on the exposed Atlantic coast further north.

What you actually see

  • The three beaches - small stretches of sand divided by rocky points.
  • The salt pond - the brackish water behind the middle beach.
  • The mangrove - the fringe along the pond and its birdlife.
  • The nature trail - the walk around the pond and through the scrub.

When to go

December to May is the dry season. The bay is calmer than the northern Atlantic coast in any month. Weekends bring local visitors.

Honest expectations

The track down is rough in places. Facilities are limited to the one hotel restaurant. Sandflies on the beach in the late afternoon are a real nuisance.

Nearby

St David's is west, and Grand Anse is southwest.
