The Diamond factory at Victoria was set up as a cooperative between Grenadian cocoa farmers and a partner in the trade, with the point being that the beans grown on the island are also processed on it rather than shipped away raw. The tour runs through fermentation, drying, roasting, conching and moulding in a small working plant, and ends in a tasting of the bars made under the Jouvay name.

What you actually see

  • The full process - fermentation through to moulding under one roof.
  • The cooperative model - farmers holding a stake in the processing.
  • The working plant - a small factory rather than a demonstration set-up.
  • The tasting - the Jouvay bars made from the beans on the island.

When to go

Year round. Tours run on set days and hours and booking ahead is sensible. Production is heavier around the two cocoa harvests.

Honest expectations

Tours run on limited days and the factory is sometimes not in production when visited. It is small and the visit is short. The tour ends in a shop.

Nearby

Victoria is around it, and Gouyave is south.
