Hvannhagi

Hvannhagi is a bowl on the northeastern side of Suðuroy, invisible from the road, reached by climbing from Tvøroyri over a ridge and dropping into it. The floor is a chaos of boulders from an old landslip with small lakes among them, enclosed by cliffs on three sides and open to the sea on the fourth, with Stóra Dímun and Lítla Dímun standing offshore. Sheep graze it and there is nothing built.

When to go

June to September is the walking season. The path is steep and slippery when wet. Fog closes the route often.

Honest expectations

The walk is steep in both directions and the descent into the valley is loose. The path is unmarked in places. There is no shelter, water or phone signal.
