Asmundarstakkur

Ásmundarstakkur stands off the western coast of Suðuroy near Sandvík, a stack separated from the cliff with a natural arch cut through the headland beside it and the thin spire of Kellingin nearby. The whole set is reached by a walk over open hill ground from the road, with no path for much of the way, and the view along the coast from the clifftop takes in the arch, the stack and the drop below.

When to go

June to September is the walking season. Fog closes the view often. Wind on the clifftop is severe and dangerous.

Honest expectations

There is no marked path and the ground is boggy and unmarked. The clifftop is unfenced with a long drop. Fog and wind make the walk unsafe on many days.
