Fulfinum was founded on the shore below Omisalj in the first century as a settlement for veterans of the Roman fleet, with a forum, streets and a harbour, and it was abandoned by late antiquity. Immediately beside it stands Mirine, a basilica of the fifth or sixth century whose walls survive to a considerable height with the apse and windows intact - one of the better preserved early Christian buildings on the northern Adriatic, with a mausoleum attached. The two sites sit together on an open bay with the sea in front and the modern industry of the Omisalj terminal not far off, which is part of the honest picture.

Honest expectations
Interpretation is limited to a few boards. The industrial terminal nearby is visible and audible. The bay is open with no shade, and nothing has been built for visitors. The path down from Omisalj is rough in places.
