Little Fort National Park

Little Fort is a small national park south of Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda, a wildlife sanctuary of dry scrub and granite boulders with the remains of a Spanish fortification in it, low walls of which not much survives. It functions mainly as protected habitat rather than as a monument: iguanas, lizards and dry-forest birds use it, and paths run through the boulders. The site is free and rarely visited. The fortification was one of a set the Spanish put up around the islands, and the boulders it was built among are the same granite intrusion that surfaces at The Baths a short way south.

When to go

December to May is the dry season. Mornings are coolest. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Before you go

Very little of the fort survives and there is no interpretation. Paths are overgrown in places. The visit is short.
