Gorda Peak National Park

Gorda Peak rises to around four hundred and fourteen metres on Virgin Gorda and the national park around it protects one of the last significant patches of Caribbean dry forest in the British Virgin Islands, ground that was otherwise cleared for sugar and grazing. Two short trails climb from the road to the summit, where a wooden lookout tower gives a view over the whole archipelago. The Virgin Gorda gecko, one of the smallest reptiles in the world, lives here.

When to go

December to May is the dry season and best for the climb. Mornings are coolest. Hurricane season runs June to November.

Things to know

The trails are short but steep and can be overgrown. The tower has been damaged by hurricanes more than once. There are no facilities at the trailheads.
