Eo Gio

Eo Gio is a horseshoe of dark volcanic cliff on the Phuong Mai peninsula, and the name means the wind gap - the bay funnels the wind between two headlands, which is constant and audible and is the reason for the name. A stone path with railings has been built along the cliff face and up over the headland, several hundred metres of it, giving a walk above the water with the swallows that nest in the rock going past. The village of Nhon Ly behind is a working fishing settlement with basket boats on the beach. Sunset from the headland is the standard visit.

March to August; late afternoon for the light. Half a day.

Honest expectations

The wind is genuinely strong and unpleasant at times. The path is exposed with no shade. Entry is charged and the site is busy at sunset. Swimming here is not sensible - it is cliff, not beach.
