Tulchyn Palace

Stanislaw Szczesny Potocki built this palace at Tulchyn between 1775 and 1782 on a scale that was extraordinary even by magnate standards: a central block with a colonnade and long curved wings, set behind a court, with a landscape park behind that once covered a large area. It has been a barracks, a school and a hospital in turn, and restoration has been intermittent, so parts stand restored and parts are shells. The composer Leontovych worked in the town.

When to go

April to October is the comfortable season. The building is mostly viewed from outside. The park is best in late spring and autumn.

What to expect

Much of the palace is derelict and closed; restoration has stopped and restarted for decades. There is no visitor centre and no interpretation. The park is neglected.
