Sapodilla Bay Hill Rock Carvings
Names and dates carved into a hilltop above Sapodilla Bay by sailors.

On the limestone hill above Sapodilla Bay on Providenciales a set of names, initials and dates is carved into the flat rock, cut by sailors and shipwreck survivors from the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries who waited on this hill watching for passing ships. The earliest legible dates are from the 1760s. The bay below is one of the calmest on the island. The carvings are protected and adding to them is an offence, though people still do.

When to go
December to April is the dry high season. Low sun morning and evening shows the carving best. The climb is short in any weather.
Good to know
The carvings are weathered and faint and take looking for. Modern graffiti has been added over the years. The climb is short but the rock is rough and there is no shade.
